Young Democrats Formed!

After a few years of being inactive Cabarrus County will finally have a Young Democrats chapter. In 2012 the Young Democrats brought the largest delegation to state convention making history. In recent years the base has disappeared and the chapter fell apart after leaders disbanded. In early 2017 Vibhav Kollu started to push for a creation of a new chapter. In late March Kollu met Taylor Beckett. The two worked together, drafted a charter, and made new progress.

Beckett ran for 3rd vice-chair at the April 8th convention, receiving 66.5 delegates or 36.94% of the total count. After a failed run for 3rd Vice-Chair to the county party, Beckett was unanimously nominated to be Youth Adviser to the county board. After this, Kollu and Beckett worked to find a meeting place and time while attracting attention to the cause. On 6/12/17 the first meeting was finally held.

Officers were elected with results being Taylor Beckett as President, Vibhav Kollu as VP, Adrienne Schnabel as Treasurer, and Madeline Seebold as Secretary. President Beckett gave a speech about the growing apathy for politics in young people and how getting youth involved is a non-partisan issue. Beckett also set out 'First Steps' agenda to help the chapter get rolling.

The new administration signed the charter, thus starting the legitimizing process. The chapter will officially be recognized after paperwork, fees, and a county board member signs the charter,
